I'd appreciate any suggestions or pointers for helping our 14-year-old cat with her problem:
Starting about 4 months ago, our cat started urinating in the extreme corner of her box, occasionally 'missing' and peeing over the edge and thus onto the floor. She does this about one-third of the time. No problem with bowel movements - they're always 'on target.' And she doesn't pee anywhere else in the house; it's always on or in the box.
We've had urine samples tested; one was positive for bacteria and we did the 2 week course of antibiotic. No change in this behavior, and she doesn't seem to have signs of urinary tract problems. We've been extra attentive to keeping the box clean. Switched from regular clay to clumping style for several weeks; no change in this pattern.
So - any ideas on either how to get her to change her ways, or a system for getting the errant pee to stay in the box??
Many thanks for your thoughts on this.....

Our cat Bartles is sometimes a little lax about getting his entire butt in the box and the best solution I've found is to put the litter box in a slightly bigger litter box, one that's a couple of inches bigger all around. Now, even if his aim is a little off, it just ends up in the other little box. Hope this helps. Patti (w/Bartles, Jaymes, Crackerjack and Cinnamon)

Regarding this problem ... we have a covered litter box. It's called a Booda Box and it's big and has high walls and a sort of domed cover that goes over it. I notice that my cat likes to pee way in the corner quite often and I'm sure if the box was just a regular one, I'd have the same problem as you. Also, the covered box eliminates the problem of flying litter (sometime he gets too enthusiastic about buring things and the litter goes flying. Well, with the covered box, it all stays inside.
Hope this helps.

Get an inclosed lid box. My cat is the same way. He always has peed in the back corner. Sometimes I think he must have to literally stick his butt up against the lid in order for him to reach that spot. I have an enclosed box and have never had any problems with him 'missing' the box and getting on the floor. It took him some time to feel comfortable about the enclosed box but after about a week he had no troubles.
Hope this helps!
