Hello Catlovers,

I have a cat named Missy. When she was little she used to like being picked up. Now that she has grown she allways runs off as soon as I try to pick her up! It's not because she is not sterilized, because she is for a year now, a few months afther she gave birth to 5 little ones.

When she was pregnant I and the vet thought she wouldn't survive, she was really weak in the end. So I had to take here many times to the docter because she was very sick. The vet did many tests but didn't find anything wrong with here. Afther the period she had to feed to here kittens she recovered. Now she is very alife again, but she just doesn't want to be picked up anymore, she puts here claws out to get away as fast as possible. Could it be that she is afraid I will take here to the vet again ?

Sometimes my mother or sister can pick here up, but never me! I feel very bad about this since, she is MY cat It's not because she doesn't like me, she never leaves the house when I'm around, she follows me everywhere, she likes to be caressed by me, she pushes here back all the way up, sometimes she even gets on here two back feet because she likes this so much.

Any tips on how I can approach this problem ?

My other cat Spock is just the other way around: nobody but me may pick him up. But the decision should allways be his,

I find that even though they are terribly affectionate, some female cats just don't like to be picked up. I know it's hard to generalize, but with all the cats I have here, (75+) I would say that on the whole, the males love to be held while the females seem to prefer to give you love on their own terms. I've also seen females get more and more affectionate as they get older.
