Our cat, a 1 1/2 year old Siamese mix, has started grabbing us and biting our legs when we walk by. I'm sure this is an attempt to get our attention in some way, either he wants food or he wants us to play with him.
Any suggestions on how to discourage this behavior? I'm hoping he'll grow out of it sooner or later. Usually I try to ignore him when he does this, but it's really iritating.

2 things (important)
1. is you cats spayed/nutered ? if not , do it soon!!!! I mean it
2. he is not really playing, He is assuming control I had 2 siamese, and at that age they started doing the exact same thing, siamese cats a perticular as you must show to your cat that YOU are in control, otherwise, your cat will become worst.... attacking new ppl that walk into your house ect..... The way I eneded the problem, was, I walked aroound the room the cat pounces on my legs all claws out, I cuffed his neck, said NO! he started growling at me I put him down, he was all flufed up, ears down and a faction of a second before attacking me again., a rol newspaper (saturday edition does a good size), as he pounced I batted him on the side softly to show him I was running the show., He got back up, 6 times in a row like this when on, after the 6th time, he was rolling on his side, still gtrowling, not as loud I scream right at him NOOOOOOOOOOOO, he scattered, I left him alone for a period of 15 mins for him to calm down, and went to fetch him from under the bed, he was not really cuddly, but I petted him down, and since that day I never had problems with him....
Siamese are well known to only listen to One master/owner, to jump on people unexpectely, that is why they have such a 'mean' reputation. but at heart they just need someone to PROve that you can be there owner
BTW : I never HURT the cat, swatting him sideways never broke anything on a cat if done with moderation. beside the nois eof a roll nespaper section usually bring scares more than pain.

Don't accept agressive, destructive behavior. Especially if it hurts! We keep several spray bottles around the house, and squirt our three cats/kittens whenever they are overly mean or vicious to us or each other, or destructive to our furniture or other belongings. The trick is to catch them in the act, not let them see you coming, and have really good aim so you only have to squirt once...they should associate the water with the dirty deed, not with you.
If your cat is vicious towards you or other ppl, pick it up immediately and put it alone in another room for a while for a _time out_. He/she will learn if they want to be social they must behave.
P.S. - Does the biting stop if you play with him for a while?

Yes, I used to play the squirt bottle game with Kaybee when he was young. We had great fun. He'd do something bad, I'd squirt him, he'd do it again. This would go on for hours. Finally when the furniture was dripping, books starting to swell up, wallpaper peeling off the walls, and little wet paw prints on everything, we'd both stop for a break. We finally had to stop when all the squirt bottles were broken from overuse.
