Actually, I would keep her out of the newly carpeted area for a while, until the toxins settle down (and here I am assuming your carpet is made of the usual synthetic materials and glued in with the usual toxic adhesives). Consult your vet about possible environmental hazards associated with new carpeting.

Poor old girl; cats hate changes and invasions.

Yesterday, we had most of our carpet and vinyl flooring replaced. Our 8 year old tabby freaked out when the installers were here and hid in the basement. When they left for the day, the carpet was gone and they had just installed underpadding.

Mitzi came back upstairs later that evening, but hid under the sofa meowing loudly. She spent the night there, and urinated on the new underpadding. This morning my wife coaxed her out and put her downstairs in the laundry room where her litter box is located.

She spent the day there while the installers finished the job. She is still there. We would like to know what we can do to lessen her anxiety, and help her adjust.

We are afraid she will go back under the sofa and urinate again on the new carpet.

BTW, we had the installer cut out the section of soiled underpad and replace it with a new piece.

How can we give her a bath. She has never had one, and we don't know if we should or not.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
