Punkins also loves the phone. If she's upstairs and the phone rings, she tries to push the phone off the hook to hear what's going on. She has been known to push the phone (combination clock radio & phone) off the tabletop. Ray glued a piece of wood to the table to keep the phone on the table and I use a ribbon fastened with velcro to keep the phone on the hook. So far it has worked. By the way Punkins if 4 1/2.

Tabitha will run up onto the counter if the phone rings acting like the call is for her. Then she stands up on her hind legs to try and reach it while its on your ear. After that she discovers the long phone cord and will play with that the rest of the time. A couple In article of times I called home and my husband would put the phone near her and I would call her name and she would meow back. So maybe thats why she thinks the calls are for her.

I'm just curious whether anybody else out there has a cat that loves the phone. My cat, Spense, is crazy about the telephone.

I got him in January of this year when he was 3 months old. He immediately loved the phone and often tried to help me dial it (we have a rotary dial). I thought he would soon outgrow this habit, but he hasn't. He'll be a year old on Halloween and he STILL loves the phone! It's so cute!

Anytime he hears me pick up the receiver and start dialing, he comes running from wherever he is to 'help' me talk. He insists on getting in my lap and playing for a minute, and then he settles down and snoozes for the duration of the call. At other times when make an outgoing call, he tries to help me dial the phone. Last night I accidentally locked him out of the room where I was talking on the phone, and he got very upset when he heard me talking without him. he pleaded at the door for me to let him in.

What does your cat love?

Hi, Kellie:

My cat Tokya is like this. Whenever the phone rings, BAM! He's right there, crying and begging for attention. I guess he knows he's got a captive audience, and that he'll *get* the attention (it's the only way I can keep him quiet while I'm talking!). Now, it's a different story when I'm on the cordless phone

I have a cordless phone and the antenae seems to be the ultimate cat toy. I'll be trying to mind my own business while kitty is on the chair back taking swipes at the antenae!

One of ours often runs to the wall-mounted phone when it rings and sits staring at it. Then, if the answering machine kicks in, he'll jump up on the desk and stare at that while it's doing its thing.

:taking swipes at the antenae!

well, i got a cordless telephone with a little stubby antenae and lennie had consumer-tested it for chewability within five minutes. now i have a little stubby dented antenae.

or antenna if spelling counts.

come to think of it, lennie also likes to play with the antenna on my shortwave radio. so far he has left the rabbit ears on my TV alone.

Our Siamese male likes to listen to the messages on the answering machine. He even paws at the button after someone has left a message. We have found the whole mess on the floor several times. When I make a call he comes running and paws at the cord while I talk.

There is an explanation why some cats like the telephone. Actually it is your tone of voice you use while on the telephone. Most of us talk in soft even tones while on the phone and cats are attracted to that. Another possible reason is cats like attention when you are least likely to be able to give it to them. Just like when they rub up against your leg while you do the laundry or are busy doing something.

Whenever our phone rings, Sally runs to 'answer' it, making her funny little trilling noise ('Mrrrrrr? mrrrrrr? mrrrrrrr?'. I think she does it because that's what we do; it's not the ringing, because I usually answer calls on the phone that has the ringer turned off, and that's the one she runs to. I keep telling her nobody's going to call for her .

My cat isn't much interested in the telephone, but the computer, that's entirely a different story. I think it was bothering her to see me paying so much attention to something other than her, so she started to sit on my lap to try and divert my attentions to her. Instead of getting me to pay more attention to her, she ended up being totally enthralled by the movements on the computer screen.

She sits on my lap with both her front paws up on the desk. She closely follows any movement I make with the mouse, especially if I'm using the pointer; that seems to be her favorite. Sometimes she gets so excited that she'll jump up and touch the screen. She even loves to watch me type. Occasionally she'll put her paws on the keyboard and sorta hit the keys. I'm not sure if she's actually made a connection between hitting the keys to make some action happen on the screen, but it certainly seems as though she has.

Actually, now that I think about it, she really did get me to pay more attention to her after all. I find it so funny to watch her and I try to find things that I think will entertain her the most.
