Does this convert to the time you used to get up? Animals tell time as it should be ie: when the sun goes up and comes down. They do not conform to our rules therefore when you change the clocks to daylight savings time they continue to work on the old time. Ask a farmer, they will tell you that a cow definitely won't wait the extra hour to be milked!

I am convinced my cat can tell time. Ever since we switched the clocks back to standard time, Smudge has been waking me up a little after 6:00, as if to say 'Your sleeping too late, it's time to get up!' Has anyone else noticed that their cat can tell time?

Granted, this is a second-hand story (i.e...it didn't happen to me, but to a friend of mine), but I thought it was hilarious.
He was telling me about a cat he had when he was growing up (his parents still have it), and he swears his cat could tell time. Not by reading the clock, but by knowing how much time had passed. He said his kitty was a wonderful cat, NEVER scratched up the furniture, UNLESS you were late.
And it wasn't by a set routine he'd know you were late. They would talk to the cat, and say things like 'We'll be back in 2 hours', and if they were, all was fine. If they were half an hour or more late, the cat had been on a rampage throughout the house. Even for long periods of time. If they told the cat 'we'll be back in 8 hours', 8 hours or less, the house would be intact, but if they were late by more than half an hour, they knew what they'd be coming home to.
I guess it makes for more punctual time-guesstimates!

My diabetic cat Big Black Fuzzy Kitty knows when it is time for his insulin shot. He should get his second shot around 7:00pm but I frequently forget. He come up to me and start meowing and eventually I'll look at the time and realize he's overdo for his shot. And what is kind of wierd is that he asks for his shot around 12 hours after he got his morning shot. So, on weekends, when he'll get his morning shot at 10:00am, he'll bother me for his evening shot sometime after 10:00pm. I've never caught him looking at the clock so far, but it wouldn't surprise me.

My cat knew she was not to be on the bed at night. One morning I was awakened by the water bed moving. I saw my cat jump off the bed and walk to the door. She layed down just outside the door facing towards the bedroom. A minute later the alarm clock went off. She knew it was time for me to wake up and didn't want me to know she had been sleeping on the bed.

Of course they can! They are creatures of habit, and thrive on a regular schedule. If my big cat is sleeping with me I can always tell if my alarm is about to go off because he starts to get restless. Though I like these shorter days, becuase he goes out later and comes home earlier.

I also think that cats can tell time. Here, in Europe we must change the time twice a year, in spring we advance one hour and in autumm we delay one hour. Boss and Cleo get their 'wet dinner' about 9pm each night. They had no trouble by getting it earlier last spring, but when we changed the time last weekend, they started asking for their dinner at 8pm (the new time). That's how I noticed they can tell the time!

Our clock radio is set to 7.00 am most days. Mist yells to be let in the bedroom at 7.01 if we decide to sleep late. (She gets thrown out for scratching on the bed *every* *night* and doesn't seem to learn.)

Sigmund jumps on the bed at eight-thirty every morning *except Saturday and Sunday*. On those days, he just waits until he thinks I'm returning to consciousness for his snuggle!
How does he know when it's Monday again!

My cat Toby knows time! He is always sitting on the hill when my sister comes home from school. (Not too close where the school bus can scare him mind you.)
