I have a cat that likes to sleepin the cat box. She's 13 years old. I keep the box clean but this seems unusual. Any thougts or suggestions?

I have a 4-5 month old kitten that loved sleeping in the litter box. The first time I saw him in there, I had to quickly step out of the room so he wouldn't see me laughing at him! I think he finally caught on that the LB isn't so great...now he sleeps in potted plants. No surprise that he was found in the great outdoors as a hungry little stray..... If your cat has never been an outside cat, it could be that he/she just find the litter nice & comfy. It's probably like when you're lying on the beach and you get the sand *just right* under your body. ahhh...

When my cat was young he would sometimes sleep in the cat box (it was one of the covered kinds). I discovered he just liked boxes, period. So, I gave him all kinds of cardboard boxes; he now has two or three in each room in which he can crawl in and nap. It did seem to break him of sleeping in the cat box. Also I put a towel & toys in to lure him!

But in your case, with a 13 year old cat, the habit may be too ingrained to break! Good luck!

You're right, it sounds unusual. The only time I have had cats hang out in the litter box is when they were very ill or very upset. I would suggest that a geriatric profile at the vet might serve you well. We'll be purring for your kitty. Let us know how she does.
