I really need some advise concerning my cat and a nasty little habit he has developed. He likes to urinate in inappropriate places, especially on dirty clothes and anything fabric that has been left on the floor, table etc. He has been neutered so he is not spraying just puddleing. His litter box is kept clean ( I read somewhere a dirty box can prompt them to go elsewhere for relief). I have caught him in action a few time and promptly told him NO and removed him from the object he was going on. I have tried a squirt bottle as well to keep him off the tables but when I am at work or at night he has his run of the house, I would really hate to have to lock him up when I'm not home. Any suggestions on how to over come this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Try following him after you have gotten after him for getting on tables, etc. My cat once got on my kitchen counter (he knew better), so I shoved him off. He went straight to my tennis shoes and peed on them. He was getting even I guess. Good luck.

This might well be a behavioral problem, but with a friend's cat it turned out to be a kidney problem, so you might want to have him checked out by a vet.

First step in a case like this is a vet visit to rule out medical cause.

My experience was my otherwise appropriate cat would begin doing this at the first sign of a bladder infection. She would go in the sink and it was a sure sign something was amiss. Have you had your kitty checked bor this? Does there seem to be any discoloration in the urine? Good luck. Otherwise, Stubborn is as stubborn does.
